Calabasas is a city in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County, California. One of the oldest buildings to survive in greater Los Angeles is the 1844 Leonis Adobe, an adobe structure in Old Town Calabasas. As a part of Los Angeles County, it was unincorporated until 1991, when it became an incorporated city. Its population increased from 23,058 during the 2010 Census to 23,241 during the 2020 Census.
“Calabasas” derives from the Spanish “pumpkin” or “squash”, which means “pumpkin”, “gourd”, or “squash”. According to some historians, Calabasas was named for the Chumash word calahoosa, meaning “where wild geese fly.” However, given the area’s abundance of wild squash plants, the squash theory is more prevalent among locals. Legend has it that a rancher from Oxnard spilled a wagonload of pumpkins on the road at the top of Calabasas Grade, east of Las Virgenes Road, on his way to Los Angeles in 1824. Hundreds of pumpkins sprouted alongside the road the following spring. As a result, the area was called Las Calabasas–the place where pumpkins fell to the ground.
A Pumpkin Festival is held every year in October in honor of the city’s namesake, which includes carnival games, exhibits, demonstrations, and live entertainment. From a small-town fair, the festival has evolved into an annual festival of national importance. The original Pumpkin Festival is believed to have taken place where a wagon carrying pumpkins overturned and made the first pumpkin patch in California. The current festival is held at Juan Bautista de Anza Park in Calabasas.
The city’s official logo depicts a red-tailed hawk soaring over the Santa Monica Mountains.
Harbor Freight Tools, The Cheesecake Factory, and DTS Inc. have their headquarters in Calabasas. The city of Calabasas is one of the wealthiest in the United States.
Bradley’s Village is a public playground located at Gates Canyon Park in Calabasas. Approximately 5,000 special-needs children from Calabasas and nearby communities are served by the center. Brandon’s Village was designed by Shane’s Inspiration, a nonprofit organization that designs and builds universally accessible playgrounds. It has a footprint of about 1 acre (4,000 m2). Over 70% of its playground equipment can be played independently by children with disabilities, and it provides meaningful and stimulating play opportunities for children without disabilities as well.
Calabasas’s Grape Arbor Park is a small park and green area situated off Ventura Freeway in Lost Road Hills. There are baseball diamonds, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds, and picnic tables in the park. Playground equipment, landscaping, and irrigation had to be repaired after the Woolsey Fire damaged the park in 2018. The city renovated the park, and reconstruction was finished in 2020.

Beverly Hills is in Los Angeles County, California. The city is surrounded by Los Angeles and West Hollywood, with a total area of 5.71 square miles (14.8 km2) in the 2010 census. Its population at the time of the 2020 census is estimated to be 33,792.
There are several celebrities in Los Angeles, as well as luxury hotels and shopping areas such as Rodeo Drive.
After investors failed to find oil, but found water instead, Beverly Hills was decided to be developed as a town in 1914. It was originally a ranch where lima beans were grown.
Residents of Beverly Hills live mostly in the “flats” which are the areas south of Sunset Blvd. and north of Santa Monica Blvd. that are relatively flat and don’t slope toward the hills. Compared to the average home price for the rest of the city, the houses in the hills north of Sunset Boulevard are valued much higher. Beverly Hills’ businesses and government offices are largely concentrated south of Santa Monica Boulevard. However, the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Beverly Hills Hilton stand out as noteworthy exceptions.
The Golden Triangle is a retail and dining center located between Santa Monica Blvd, Wilshire Blvd, and Crescent Drive in Downtown Beverly Hills, a top destination for locals and visitors from around the world in some areas. There are distinct characteristics to streets running from northwest to southeast.
You’ll find medical offices, bank branches, delicatessens, bank branches and other conveniences along Linden, Roxbury, Bedford and Camden drives. There are a number of high-end boutiques on Rodeo Drive.
Several upscale retail chains line Beverly Drive, including Crate and Barrel, The Gap, Sephora, Pottery Barn, lululemon, and AllSaints. Restaurants are also found on Beverly Drive. Ca*on and Crescent drives attract shoppers and diners, as do restaurants such as Spago and local favorites. They also provide local needs, such as Rite Aid drugstores and Whole Foods markets. There are also multi-story parking garages along these streets.
In the city’s downtown area, only two department stores remain: Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. It was once home to the upscale department stores Barneys New York, I. Magnin, and J.W. Robinson’s.
Also south of Wilshire Blvd., South Beverly Drive is a popular dining and shopping district.
There are more urban square and rectangular lots south of Wilshire Boulevard than north of it, with in general smaller lots. The number of apartment buildings south of Wilshire Boulevard is also higher than anywhere else in Beverly Hills. Prices of houses south of Wilshire Boulevard are the lowest in Beverly Hills, too.

The city of Bellflower, California, lies in southeast Los Angeles County. The city was founded in 1906 and incorporated on September 3, 1957. According to the latest census, the city had 79,190 residents in 2020, up from 76,616 in 2010. The city ranked 65th among cities over 50,000 residents in terms of density (and 8th in California).
Prior to the damming of the San Gabriel River, the site was a rich agricultural area irrigated with artesian wells and floodwaters. A municipality named Somerset was established in 1909 when a post office was established on the site by local investor F E Woodruff. It was claimed that the US Post Office rejected the name ‘Somerset’ because of confusion with Somerset, Colorado. Bellflower apples were grown in local orchards during the early 1900s, which is how the present name originates.
Bellflower and Paramount, originally settled by Dutch, Japanese, and Portuguese dairy farmers, served first as apple and later milk production centers for Southern California, until soaring property values forced most farmers east to Dairy Valley/Dairyland/Dairy City (currently Cerritos, La Palma, and Cypress). After being converted into large housing subdivisions, the farms were sold to Los Angeles’s growing population of skilled industrial workers and service providers. Hence, despite Bellflower’s enormous diversity of backgrounds, there are still many residents of Dutch descent; Bellflower is one of the only cities in the US to have multiple Dutch grocery stores.
Bellflower gradually transitioned from an agricultural center to a suburban community after being incorporated in 1957. Bellflower Boulevard, the city’s main thoroughfare, was a thriving commercial strip between the 1950s and the 1960s. Several retail and franchise restaurant companies began on this street, which also included middle- and high-end boutiques, arts and crafts stores, and other small businesses alongside larger department stores and banks. It is now a vibrant urban community located within the greater Southeast Los Angeles area and is considered one of the most densely populated cities in America. A sister city relationship exists between this city and Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico
Bellflower is served by the Los Angeles County Fire Department from stations 23 and 98. Bellflower is served by Care Ambulance.
Sheriff’s deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department operate the Lakewood Station in Bellflower. The Sheriff’s Department also manages the Bellflower Substation in Bellflower. The Post Office in Bellflower is located at 9835 Flower Street

California’s Bell City is located near the former town of San Antonio (abolished after 1960), in Los Angeles County. According to the 2010 census, its population was 35,477, down from 36,664 at the 2000 census. This suburb of Los Angeles is located on the west bank of the Los Angeles River. Bell measures just 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2) and has a population of at least 25,000, making it the thirteenth smallest city in the United States.
As measured by the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 square miles (6.7 km 2), of which 2.5 square miles (6.5 km 2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km 2) is water.
US Census Bureau figures for 2007 show Bell’s land area at 1245 out of 1257 cities (defined as incorporated areas) and two unincorporated communities that had at least 25,000 people as of 2000. In the list of 1267 cities, ten cities had no land area information (e.g., Goleta, California).
In a special election, residents of the city voted to become a charter city on November 29, 2005. Less than 400 voters participated in this special election. A charter city means that city officials were not subject to state salary caps because they had more than half of their votes cast by absentee ballots. The city of Baldwin Park is in the central San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California, United States. A population of 72,176 was recorded at the 2020 census, down from 75,390 at the 2010 census.
The Baldwin Park area was originally part of a cattle pasture belonging to the San Gabriel Mission. Rancho Azusa de Dalton and Rancho La Puente eventually acquired it and incorporated it into their properties. After its incorporation, Vineland was referred to as Vineland from 1860 until the early 1900s. In 1906, the name Baldwin Park was adopted, in honor of its founder, Elias J. Baldwin. 1956 marked Baldwin Park’s incorporation as the 47th city in California. Today, the city is working to revitalize its economy. There are six Project Redevelopment Areas currently in operation in strategic areas of the city.
On October 22, 1948, Baldwin Park opened its first In-N-Out burger stand. California’s first drive-thru was replaced with a new structure in November 2004. The new In-N-Out University and company store opened in 2006 at Francisquito Avenue. It is also worth noting that the company’s first meatpacking plant can be found just across the street from the corporate headquarters at Hamburger Lane. Moreover, In-N-Out has now established a second meat-processing plant in Texas to serve their Texas restaurants.
Toward the end of 1882, the first schoolhouse was built on the southeast corner of North Maine and Los Angeles Avenues, which was occupied by approximately 25 students by 1884. On the north end of the space there was a heating stove and two rows of double seats, as well as an aisle leading to the teacher’s desk. The first teacher was named Mr. Frazier. Vineland School District was established by the Court of Common Pleas during the month of April 1888, according to county records.
In July 1888, the first Board of Trustees took office, electing Miss Jessie Washburn to teach the district school that fall. The house was sold in 1890, and it was moved to a new location for a private residence. After building the second school in 1890, the district hired two teachers, Ellen Lang and Venna O. Finney. By 1912, it had been rendered obsolete. After becoming a private Japanese school, it stood as a landmark until it burned on September 5, 1936. Baldwin Park Unified School District is located along the city’s borders today. A total of 23 schools are located within this district with a budget of more than $100 million allocated to the district. In preparation for future growth, new school buildings are currently being constructed. Students in the district are being assisted by data-driven strategies to improve their API test scores. Teachers who wish to retire are offered retirement incentives as part of an ongoing effort by the district to hire new teachers.

As the southernmost city in Los Angeles County, Avalon is the only incorporated city on Santa Catalina Island, in the California Channel Islands. There are a lot of tourism-oriented businesses along the waterfront in the resort city. On the valley floor, the older areas of the town are characterized by small houses and buildings with two and three stories in various traditional styles of architecture.
William Wrigley Jr. gained control of Avalon in 1919. He oversaw much of Avalon’s development, including the construction of the Catalina Casino. Several developers attempted to develop Avalon into a destination community from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, but all failed before Wrigley went bankrupt.
At the 2010 census, there were 3,728 people living in the city. About one million people visit Avalon every year, and cruise ships visit it regularly. The Tongva inhabited the island prior to European colonization.
Avalon Bay is the focal point of the city’s activities, with the harbor and beaches denoting the town’s character. A breakwater and main dock for cross-channel passenger boats, Cabrillo Mole is located at the south end of the harbor. Crescent Street, which runs just behind the three main beaches of Avalon Bay, is home to many businesses dedicated to serving visitors. There are decorative pavers and fountains all along the walkway, as well as palm trees and a serpentine seawall. Philip K. Wrigley brought about many of these design features in 1934 when he redesigned Avalon. The green Pleasure Pier stretches out into the harbor. Catalina Casino occupies most of the north end of the harbor. As Avalon’s most distinctive landmark, the Casino was constructed in a style that is a cross between art deco and Mediterranean revival.
Located just north of the Santa Catalina Island Company’s Casino, Descanso Beach is a private beach, entertainment and meeting venue. Hamilton Cove condominiums, a gated community with mostly second homes, are in the far northern part of town. The Lovers Cove dive park is a marine preserve popular with snorkelers as well as glass-bottom boat tours. Avalon’s power comes from Pebbly Beach Generating Station, an industrial zone that is home to the Pebbly Beach Seaplane Base & Heliport and Pebbly Beach Generating Station.
There are fewer residential units on the beachfront of Avalon, where most of the housing is found in the flat lands further back in the canyon or on the hills on either side of the valley. In addition to City Hall, the fire station, Catalina Island Medical Center, and Avalon Schools, many important municipal amenities are in the canyon. A former summer cottage of William Wrigley Jr is now a hotel called Mount Ada. There are no bay views from the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Gardens since they are at the farthest end of town. From 1927 through 1937, Catalina Island made famous pottery and tile that is prominently displayed in the Memorial
